Holy Gems!

Ok another topic I have found myself complaining about a lot lately are people's gem choices. I have found myself inspecting people only to go "Eww! What was he thinking? Maybe he isn't thinking and that’s the problem." Seriously people, just because your T6 pants have a blue socket does not mean that you have to put a pure blue gem in them! Yes I'm glad you can make an 18 stam gem with your Jewel crafting, but that gem is not for you!

In general matching socket bonuses are not a terrible idea. Unless the socket bonus is terribad, like lets say... Stam... I would say go for it. We have a lot of different stats that we can benifit from. And thanks to the spell power change a lot more gems just opened up for us. In general, unless you are at the haste stacking point, stick with red, purple, and orange. They have the most beneficial stats. I'll get more accurate HPS numbers when I get home from work! :D

Red:
+spell power: 4.99 HPS
This is the only pure red that really benefits us. This can be either a teardrop or runed. They have the same stats.

Purple:
+spell power/+mp5 (Royal): 3.19 HPS
This is by far the most beneficial purple gem. The other former healing gem was purified, but spirit is useless. Avoid that one. Royal is much better!

+spell power/+stam (Glowing): This was formerly a caster only gem. It is still not an ideal healing gem, but it might be nice for pvp gear. I would never put one in my raiding gear however.

Orange:
+spell power/+int (Luminous): 3.43 HPS
This was the only choice we had for a long time, and is still a very good choice. The int gives you a little bit of mana, crit, and healing so it's kind of a nice all around gem.

+spell power/+crit (Potent):
Another good gem choice, I have a lot of these at the moment. Crit heals give you 60% of your base mana back, and crit holy shocks give you spell haste. <3 crit. You want 20%+.

+spell power/+haste (Reckless):
Haste is a good stat to go for once you are in a comfortable place with your other stats. I would not consider haste until you have a good base of 25% holy crit, 900+ spell power, and 100+ mp5. Haste eats your mana regen! But super quick holy lights are very sexy!

Yellow:
I generally stay away from pure yellow because I'm an effective heal junkie but there a couple beneficial yellows. However you can see from the straight HPS where they fall in comparison.

+Crit (Gleaming): 1.68 HPS

+Int (Brilliant): 1.88 HPS

+Haste (Quick):

Hope this helps a little! <3

Mmm Bacon

Beacon of light and you!

So the question has recently come up in our healing channel about the appropriate use and effectiveness of beacon of light. This was met by some comments from our holy paladins, and I was saddened to see that they weren't all accurate. So here goes my explanation... Bacon or Beacon of light is our new 51 point holy talent. It's tool tip reads that the beacon (who you place the spell on) will receive 100% of the healing you do to other targets in the raid under the effect if the beacon (everyone else in the raid provided they are not like a bazillion miles away.. ok like 40+ yards).

Now what this means, like the tool tip says your beacon will get 100% of the effective heals you do to other targets in the raid. Pretty handy right? However, what needs to be recognized is, overheal is not effective heal. So, if you put a beacon up on the MT in a raid setting then decide you are going to just raid heal, you had better be damn sure you are beating the raid healers to heals or your tank gets squat. Now if your raids run anything like mine, raid healing is not your job. Now that doesn't mean I don't help if someone is about to croak, but in general it is my job to keep focus on a MT and keep them alive. So, I honestly would never just put a beacon up on my Mt and trust it to keep him toped off while I raid heal. I much prefer actually knowing what my MT's health looks like all the time and healing accordingly.

So then what is a good use for it? Well, how about an OT? Or hey, How about yourself? For example, the Twins fight. We bring 3 paladins and assign each of us to one of the three tanks. One on the MT, one on the OT, and one on the lock tank. This week I was assigned to the MT, so I put my beacon on the lock tank, the lock healer put his on the OT, and the OT healer put his on the MT. This effectively doubled our output and lets us assist with the other tank targets. Had I put mine on the Mt and then just spam healed the MT it would have been a big fat waste of 1000 mana. Also if I had trusted the beacon to heal him and assisted with raid healing, due too huge spike possibilities, I probably would have lost my tank... *cue yelling in vent* On a smaller scale, like the curator fight for example, if you were assigned to the main tank, you could put your beacon on whomever will be taking the arcane bolt thingies, effectively keeping both tanks topped without ever dropping focus on the MT.

Beacon can also be quite nice to put on yourself in big splash damage fights. And here is a little tip, the heals you get from the beacon will proc your spiritual attunement, so oooh, mana back from your own heals, sexy huh? And with my 2nd glyph being the glyph of spiritual attunement, this is really nice.

So in general, bacon is tasty. As long as you know where to put it and understand that overheal does not proc it you will be good to go!

Path of Hero

So today Wowinsider http://www.wowinsider.com/ did a site feature on Path of a Hero
http://www.pathofahero.com/. It looks like a fun sight to create a picture blog or just track your achievement progress. I'm creating one for Kae. If anyone else decides to make one let me know! :D

Zombies!

Unless you are completely blind, or your server is dead, I'm sure you have noticed the Zombie invasion. If you were as unamused with this as I was, you're in luck! They found a cure! Now admittedly the invasion was fun for awhile. And I am not one of the QQing masses. Blowing up our servers resident annoying ass 5 boxer was enough to make the event for me, but I'm a broke ass and can't afford the repair bills that result from dying. Ask anyone who knows me... I do not like dying. This is why I rolled a cockroach.... err... paladin. But I digress, it's done. Now all that's left is to get my pretty pastel T2 set from the undead invasions. My prot boy, whom I have been really enjoying lately has 3 pieces already. I just need to find one of those annoying rare spawns that likes to carry around plate!

_____ needs a name!

Meet my Death Knight ________. He enjoys long walks on the Plagued Coast, death, destruction, and of course ice cream sammiches. What he does not enjoy however, is his lack of a name, and kittens.
Here are some of the names I'm leaning towards. I play on an RP server, so keep that in mind with responses!

Kasimir meaning "great destroyer"
Kelemen meaning "gentle and merciful"
Prochorus meaning "leader of the dance"
Bedwyr meaning "grave knower"
any other good ideas?
